Server migration (2)

Post by Remus »

Sorry fellows, bad-good news.
Everything is growing here, the summer vacation is close,
2TB per month bandwidth is not enough anymore.
I'm going to move http://www.infdat.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; on another server (Xeon processor and 4TB per month).
The worldwide propagation will come with troubles for all of us, that's it.
I will let you know when the migration starts (in the next days).

The same location: Chicago - USA.
Everything is mirrored on http://necromanthus.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (daily updated).
In case of big troubles ...
Talking about the 2nd server (Frankfurt - Germany) and the 3rd server (probably India), we need more sponsors.
Everything is for free here, I cannot cover all the costs by myself.

Well, what kind of costs are we talking about?

You know -- if I have to pay money to actually have JUST ONE OR TWO players with good connection to a server that allows me the same type of game experience as everyone else, I'm willing to push the Donate button!

Far too long it has sucked major balls to aim directly at someone, shoot, and have them suddenly blink out of the way before the bullet gets there. I, on the other hand, am a smooth-moving target whom other players, even noobersons, NEVER miss!

So clue me in on servers, how we get them for people, and how we improve gameplay on H2!!!

You cannot afford a dedicated server for a multiplayer 1st person shooter (hundreds of USD per month).
And I don't take any buck from you anyway.
With your always 80ms ping and very good connection, the current servers (Chicago USA) are the best choice.
Your real problem is another one.
To fix it, do the following:
play Kinettera and use the teleporters very often.
There is a 1% chance to be teleported in a small cave (outside the map).
In that cave you'll see a big button: "Buy a decent computer".
Click on it!
Come back and play again with the bad pingers.
They have the same bad connection, but you'll notice a HUGE difference.
The difference between "Timber the frog" and "Timber the prince".

I'm on a refusal to get a better PC!

If folks can play here connected through tin cans and shoe string, then I should be able to play on my basic computer.

So BAN all bad connections! It's simple

Very complex map (AZT like, but bigger).

The new server is 100% functional.
Everything (game, databases, forum, etc) has been mirrored.
Tonight (approx 6 hours later) I will change the DNS settings and I will close this forum.
When you'll see an open forum, it means the propagation is complete (for you).
Cursing is allowed in the next days.

I'm hoping the experience I had against Kurt and Rambo34 in CTF was due to the server migration.

It was extremely bad  God, I'm so sick of this lol

11 frags and got killed around 60 times.

You played on the necromanthus.com game server.
The propagation is related to http://www.infdat.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.
p.s.
Propagation complete in Romania (less than 12 hours).

So my seeing Rambo in walls and floating in the air and firing 10 shots at once, and Kurt's giant leaps from left to right when shooting, were just basic everyday happenstances of the game and nothing to do with the server?

That's about enough for me...

Why did you select the necromanthus.com game server (not suitable for multiuser games anyway),
if both infdat.com servers are running and still available?

p.s.
70% of the online players are still on the old server.
All these frags are lost.

Well, it was a big mess from the get-go. I wanted to play DM in SMC, but, of course, I didn't get that...

Instead, we had to play CTF in AZT. But when I made a camp, they couldn't find it. When they made a camp, I couldn't find it. Finally, I suggested we try the Necro server, and then we all found each other.

We got to 6-1 in our favor before Kurt and Rambo left. And I've never been so happy to see someone leave! Kiren was winning on her own, as I was still trying to figure out how Rambo killed me before he even spawned!

All this is why I thought it was the migration...

The complete propagation in Pakistan might take 24-48 hours.

Guys, wait for complete propagation and leave me alone.
If your ISP sucks, you have to wait several days.
If you join the old server, you cannot find players.
Even with this mess, the new server had many players today.
Take a look here for example: http://www.infdat.com/hopeless2/FreeTeams.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

One question, but please don't say: "Milan, leave me alone! I had 2 tough days!"

I know that my ping after migration (as after 1st migration) become "great".
What I don't understand is that after 1st migration all players for me were ghosts, after few days all become cool, but now, when I test ping on http://www.infdat.com/utils/PingTest.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; it's 370ms, on Command Prompt, average is 605ms (tested 10 times and no lost data packets) and the most wierd is that all in camps are normal for me, Simon test my movements and he says it's almost normal, I die regular, I am not kicked out of camp... wierd, no?

Cheers
