Hopeless 2 Beginner’s Guide
Ver 1.04 (Last update: September, 2013)

Welcome!
Quick-Start instructions:
Default* Character movement/ control keys:
W = ahead (Shift+W to run)
S = back
A = Left
D = Right
C = crouch (press again to stand)
Space = Jump
X or Left Mouse Button = shoot
0 or Right mouse button = aim / scope (when available for weapon type)
or Alt fire (grenade launcher)
(Note: while scope is active, W to zoom in, S to zoom out)
Weapon Selection: Number keys 1 - 8
U = Use / Action
L = place Landmine
ENTER key = opens in-game chat / command line (press ENTER again to post the message)
T = Team chat (messages that only your team members can see during any team play)

*Note: All movement keys can be re-mapped in the Login menu.

To begin play:
1. Enter your username and password, then press “Login”, then press “Play”.
The next screen provides information about the “Pro Package”. 30,000 points (or $3 U.S.D.) are required to purchase the package for 30 days of use. Note: you can only re-new your purchase of the package after it expires. Press “Next”.
2. Select a character, and uniform color,
3. Select a map. Use default server, or select a new server if a better ping is achieved. (Ping rates below 100 are optimum). Open (occupied) camps will appear, select camp and click “Join” to enter, or click “New” to open a new camp. Players with less than 100 frags are limited to Beginner camps. After 100 frags, you can then join any other available camps under Free for All, Free Teams, Infection, CTF (Capture the Flag) (free) or Domination (free). (See “Team play” for more information about Free Team, Infection and Domination games).
All other camps are limited access to players who belong to a team. (See “Joining / Starting a Team” for more information)
Once you have entered a camp, use the movement keys in conjunction with the mouse to aim and shoot opponents.

Official Game Rules:

1. Game cheats or cheat engines of any kind including aim bots, speed hack, Ammo hacks or augmented health hacks of any kind are strictly prohibited.
A player found using cheats or hacks will be subject to indefinite ban of game account.
Second infraction results in IP ban.

2. Account sharing or sharing of passwords is strictly prohibited.
Infraction results in 30 day game account ban and frags reduced to 500 for account holder,
30 day game account ban for all players found using the account.
Second infraction results in indefinite ban for all players involved.

3. Cursing or offensive/abusive name-calling of other players may result in being kicked from the camp. Excessive reports of such may result in suspension of the chat feature for that given player. Repeated offences may result in game account ban.

4. Deadheading (entering a camp with multiple game accounts open for the sole purpose of point / frag generation) is strictly prohibited and will result in indefinite game account ban.

Note: Suspected cheats and other bad activities can be reported on the forum under the General Talk / Cheaters (a.k.a. morons) or the General Talk / Players with bad attitudes topics.

Game Play and Strategies:

First Person / Third Person view: At the camp character / camp selection screen you can choose desired view. This is purely based upon personal preference. First Person offers a camera view point of you holding your weapon in front of you versus the Third Person view in which the camera is placed slightly behind the player.

Day/Night: If you are starting a new camp, you can select daylight or night settings.

Heads up Display (H.U.D.): The H.U.D. gives information about the camp and your status.
A roster of camp player names and frags is constantly displayed.
Other displays include: K/D (kills vs. death ratio for current camp), Radar (see below for more information), Health status, Current weapon and available ammo, Number of Chickens accumulated, number of crows / DS bonus count (see below for more information), possession of Landmine, available stamina (for running) status (limited, and gradually restores with time).

Points and Frags: One Frag is accumulated each time you successfully kill an opponent. Your total frags constitute the rank of your player. (See “Announcements / Lists, ranks and Bonuses” forum topic for more information) Points are accumulated with each frag (points vary by the rank of the opponent fragged). Points can be used to purchase items from the in-game warehouse, or to purchase the Pro-Package found on the page after you login and press “Play”.

Weapons: At start of a new game, several default weapons are within your inventory. Use number keys 1 – 8 to select the various weapons. Weapons are also hidden throughout the camp. Pass over the weapon to collect it (or more ammo once it’s been collected). Additionally, once an opponent is eliminated, a weapon is left behind and is yours for the taking. But be quick! It only lasts a few seconds. (Note: Pro-guns do not appear and cannot be collected from eliminated opponents unless you possess the Pro-Package. 30,000 points (or $3 U.S.D.) are required to purchase the package for 30 days of use.)
Weapon inventory access: (pressing “V” key will temporarily display your current inventory and ammo for each)
1) pistols
2) shotguns
3) machine guns
4) sniper rifles
5) rocket launchers
6) super guns (machine guns with grenade launcher)
7) extra guns with scope
8) crossbow

Tips: Be sure to explore every corner of the camp for weapons. Some are quite well-hidden. Experiment with each weapon for right mouse button capability and use.

Warehouse items: You can “purchase” (by pressing “U” key) items from the in-game warehouse. The location of which is indicated by a pink dot appearing on the radar. The price (a few points) and description of each item appears as you position your crosshair over it. These items include Landmines, Med kit (health boost), body armor and radar (makes opponents visible on your radar for a limited time). Also, a pizza is hidden in each camp, and when found may be eaten (press U key) for a health boost.

Teleport: Some camps feature teleports which when stepped through will transport you to another area of the camp. Great for use as a quick get-away! Visit each camp and try each portal to learn where it will send you.

Nasty Birds (Crows) and Chickens:
Chickens appear perched in various places within the camp (appearing as an orange dot on your radar). Shooting a chicken gives you a boost of ammo for your current weapon as well as 50% stamina (for running). The location of the chicken will change every few seconds.
The crow flies in circles above the camp. Shooting a crow gives a boost of health. Additionally, shooting 5 crows will give one “Deadly Strike” (DS) bonus. Press the “R” key to select the DS (the “DS” symbol will appear in light blue color). The next shot will successfully kill any opponent instantly! (You may store up to 5 DS bonuses at one time. The current available quantity of DS bonuses is indicated on your HUD under the “crow” symbol. Additionally, each crow shot will replenish 100% of your stamina for running.

Using the Radar: The radar (only available to registered players) is a very useful tool for navigating larger camps.
Pink dot indicates the location of the in-game warehouse.
Orange dot indicates current location of chicken
During Team Play:
Pink dot indicates location warehouse
Yellow dot indicates Yellow Flag or Base
Green dot indicates Green Flag or Base
Light Blue dot indicates team mate location
Orange dot indicates location of dog in Domination (when not being lured)

Maps & Camps:
Select a map, and any occupied camps will appear. Click the “Join” button or the “new” button if you wish to start a new camp. Tip: Explore each camp to get a feel for the background colors. Select a color uniform to match to better blend in (camouflage). Each map has several “spawn sites”. This is a randomly selected location that you will “spawn” in when joining a camp (of after being fragged). Re-generation time varies by Rank.

Beginners: You must shoot everyone including your friends, players you like, teammates. If you don't want to kill players you like then choose another camp: Free Teams, Infection, Domination, CTF, Team Deathmatch. See info about these camps below. Very important: this camp is for beginners, not for players playing this game for years. If nobody is in other camps then why don't you open your own camp that is not for beginners? Wait there for a couple of minutes there and then when nobody enters(usually somebody does) you can play in noob camps. I think it's fair, isn't it?

Free For All: You must shoot everyone including your friends, players you like, teammates. If you don't want to kill players you like then choose another camp: Free Teams, Infection, Domination, CTF, Team Deathmatch. See info about these camps below.

Team play: Several games are available for both “free team” and registered team play. (See “Teams” topic on the forum for more information about starting a new or joining an existing registered Team).
Note: By typing “T” during game play, you can open a “team-only” chat to report the location of enemies, strategies, warnings, etc.

Free-Team: Every map has this feature. Join with several other (minimum of 4 players required) players, and start or join a “free team” game. Divide into equal groups and decide on uniform color of Green or Yellow. Tip: consider all players using the same uniform. Each team starts at the corresponding colored flag. (Explore each camp to learn the location of these flags. They appear in any game configuration). Once each team member has gathered at their respective flag, indicate through the Chat feature the beginning of the match. Shoot members of the opposite team. A message will appear indicating the end of the match. Note: Shooting a team member will result in loss of all pro weapons. You will have to gather each weapon again. If you have the Pro-Package, you will start each new match with all pro weapons.

Infection: A minimum of 3 players is required. Open an “Infection” camp. Each player starts as a human character. Shooting and eliminating opponents turns them into “red monster”. Once all opponents have been turned to monsters, the last standing human must score one more frag to win the round. (Eliminating a human will turn you back to a human).

Domination (DOM) & Domination (free): Minimum of 4 players required. Each team starts at the corresponding color flag. The object is to approach the dog in the center of the camp, and lure him to your flag. Careful! Don’t get too close or he will bite! Tip: Consider one player to be responsible to lure the dog and all other players are to guard that player. Note: Shooting a team member will result in loss of all pro weapons. You will have to gather each weapon again. If you have the Pro-Package, you will start each new match with all pro weapons

Capture the Flag (CTF) & CTF (Free): Minimum of 4 players required. Each team starts at the corresponding color flag. The object is to capture the opposing team’s flag and return it to your base. Your flag must be in position at home to score. Shooting and eliminating an opponent carrying your flag will “release” the flag and it will remain in that spot until collected. (Simply run over the flag to collect it). If you regain your flag, return it to your base where it will remain until opponent captures it again. Tip: Assign one or more players to guard your flag, and remainder of team to capture the opponent’s flag and guard player carrying that flag to your home base. Note: Shooting a team member will result in loss of all pro weapons. You will have to gather each weapon again. If you have the Pro-Package, you will start each match with all pro weapons

Death Match (DM): (For registered teams only). Minimum of 4 players required. Each team starts at the corresponding color flag. The object is for each team to score points by shooting and eliminating opponents. Match ends when a score of 50 is achieved. Note: Shooting a team member will result in loss of all pro weapons. You will have to gather each weapon again. If you have the Pro-Package, you will start each match with all pro weapons.

Using In-game Commands:
A list of commands can be found at the bottom center of the screen immediately after selecting a camp. The current list of available commands is as follows:
> break time you can take a break for 3 – 10 minutes (you need 100 health)
> elite camp all non-elite players are kicked from camp (requires elite status and you must be the camp owner)
> clean camp clears the camp of all non-Bonus players (you must be the camp owner)
> lock camp locks camp and no other players can join (you must be the camp owner)
> unlock camp unlocks current camp so players can join (you must be the camp owner)
> N out you can vote the player “N” to be kicked out, “N” is number of player name position from roster top down (2 different votes are needed)
> N mute you can vote the player “N” to be muted from in-game chat, “N” is number of player name position from roster top down (2 different votes are needed)
> max N set a maximum number of players for camp, “N” is number of players (you must be the camp owner)
> spectate N places you in break and you can spectate a player while in play, “N” is number of player name position from roster top down
> show packs show quality of all player’s connection (data packs sent, received & errors)
> show fps shows your FPS (Frames per second) value (Default is ON)
> winter time winter time in Frozen City (FZC)
> invert mouse mouse look up & down is inverted
> party time (Requires Elite status)
> scope one (changes scope view of all weapons to “clear view” in lieu of default)
> T you can send a message Team Mates only (Deathmatch, CTF & Domination) note: to use, simply press “T” during play then type message and press ENTER
To use any of the in-game commands, press ENTER key to open chat, type the > symbol and then a space and the name of the command, then press ENTER

Common strategies:

1. MOVE or HIDE! Standing in one open spot is invitation to be fragged immediately. Keep moving throughout the camp, or take cover behind boxes, walls, within buildings etc.
2. When being fired upon, consider moving side-to-side or in a circle. This makes it more difficult for your opponent to aim at you.
3. RUN FOR IT! Shift + W (or W + E) will activate the running feature. Careful! It’s limited. (Stamina regenerates slowly over time, or completely as you spawn.) Additionally, shooting a chicken restores 50% stamina and a boost of ammo for currently held weapon; shooting a crow (Nasty bird) restores 100% stamina and boost to armor.
4. Purchase Armor.
5. As you spawn, press and hold the “S” key to move backwards. Often, there is an opponent spawning at about the same time. Get the jump on him! (Or crouch down as you spawn).
6. JUMP! Jumping up and down makes it difficult for someone to aim at you.
7. Use items from the warehouse. To place a landmine, press the “L” key. But be careful, just like the real thing it can backfire on you! Once it’s been placed, a blinking light blue dot will appear on your radar and will remain until it’s detonated. Keep track so you don’t fall into your own trap! Additionally, the landmine indicator on your H.U.D. will be transparent in locations where landmines are prohibited, such as the warehouse, or too close to spawn sites. Use of landmine in these locations will detonate landmine immediately killing the user.

BADLANG / ELITE / BONUS/TRIPLE X

BadLang
Players with very bad language.
They cannot use the in-game chat.
The moderators and the players marked "elite" will nominate them.
3 votes are needed.

Elite
Requirements:
- active players (>500 frags in the current month)
-The minimum frag requirement is 10,000 for Elite. Once you meet this minimum, you are eligible for Elite.
- nice folks with good attitude
- forum members & community contributors

What you will get:
3 crows per DS
elite camps
party girls

They must ask for the "elite" label, the moderators (or the admin) must approve their requests.

Bonus
Requirements:
"elite" label plus good connection

What you will get:
+10% Life
+10% Armor
+10% Damage

The moderators will nominate these players (2 votes are needed)

Note: the players with paid Pro Package get the "elite" label from administrator.

To qualify for Elite and/or Bonus, you must have good standing with the community and maintain 500 frags monthly. (Bad Language is an "indefinite mute" penalty. You could ask kirby about it, but he can't answer in the game).

Triple X
Requirements:
You need 2 votes from moderators.

Just because you request it, does not mean you will receive it. Each request is reviewed by all moderators. We may ask, "why do you think you need it?" Our answer may be based upon the answer you give us.
Main considerations and qualifications:
1. Responsible and mature players
2. Team Leaders (also meeting qualification #1)
3. Respected community members. We believe that leaders should lead by example.

What you will get:
(Triple mute / out power). This was offered to team leaders and a very select few players. This is to "police camps" from vulgarities or other abuse against other players. Players with less than optimal connection levels are asked to give up the Bonus if they want Triple X powers.

Triple X is merely the power to kick or mute a player without two votes from other players. In other words, 3 times the power to remove or mute another player. The intent is only to help police the camps. Normally, a responsible person would not need to use this more than ONE TIME every other month. We all believe that players should be adequately warned before they are kicked or muted. Triple X power is to be considered a "last resort" measure of enforcement. At one time, all players with Bonus had this power. We found that many were abusing the power. So it was removed and given it's own classification.

If reports of abuse of this power are received and verified, the power can be removed from a player.

Thanks! But I cannot take all the credit. This was a combined effort of all the moderators, Remus, and several other player's suggestions over the past 2 years.
Speaking of which, if anyone see's corrections, or has something to add, please post here and it will be considered for inclusion in the guide.

 slapshot you have really done a splendid job here, and it must have taken a long time,I remember mentioning the beginners guide some time ago,and I thought the idea had been forgotten.
Such a perfect job that this should have have its own catorgary where it will not get lost and always be available to everyone ,so that anyone can visit the forums and find this straight away.
Now you deserve a reward from the boss, once again brilliantly written.

Remus,
Tried this command for a SMC DM but it just said invalid command.
It's a great command for a quick game or maps like SMC,
I was also the camp owner. If it's not working do you have the time to fix it? We could only reach 17 points in the DM before a player had to leave.
Thx,
Ace

That command does not exist anymore.
The limits are:
20 frags for 1v1 and 1vs2
30 frags for 2vs2 and 2vs3
50 frags for 3v3 and above
5 flags/dogs in CTF/Domination

That command (> limit N) had nothing to do with scores under 20 frags.
These scores canNOT be saved anyway.
The purpose of that command was to set:
- 100 instead of 50 frags in DeathMatch
- 5 instead of 10 flags/dogs in CTF/Domination.
With the current values, that command does not make sense anymore, that's why it has been removed.

If you click on the Commands button (in the multiplayer modes frame) you see the commands.
Use that small arrow for the 2nd page.
That "> limit N" command has been removed a year ago.

Because it doesn't make sense.
A 10 dogs limit Domination game in SMC takes 30-45 minutes.
A 100 frags free team match takes quite a lot of time.
With so many bad connections and bad computers you won't be able to finish any match.
Got it?

S = back
A = Left
D = Right
C = crouch (press again to stand)
Space = Jump

I thınk, you to write them so deal :D

Because it doesn't make sense.
A 10 dogs limit Domination game in SMC takes 30-45 minutes.
A 100 frags free team match takes quite a lot of time.
With so many bad connections and bad computers you won't be able to finish any match.
Got it?
yes remus i understand it will take a lot of time

Remus I agree 100% with your logic above, and that's exactly the reason all 4 of us wanted to set our DM limit to 15 in SMC.
With the set DM/Free Team limits in SMC the matches take way too long, last night it took us about 35min to reach a score of 17 to 9 before a player had to leave. (this is not unusual in SMC)

Since the > limit command is eliminated. Would you consider reducing the DM limits by 50% for SMC and maybe KIN also? 5 for DOM is fine, but DM/Free Teams is excessively high...
Remus please consider, and any comments welcome from fellow players,
The DM limits:
20 frags for 1v1 and 1vs2
30 frags for 2vs2 and 2vs3
50 frags for 3v3 and above
5 flags/dogs in CTF/Domination

SMC is not a popular map anymore.
For over 2 years!
It is the first one, it's too large and annoying.
The players had no other choice at that time, so they had to live with it.
manga is still stuck with this map (probably because he lives in the past  )
It's not a frags builder (the main goal of 99% of the players these days  ).
On contrary, it's a time waster!

I might force the frags limit to 15 (instead of 20) for the SMC map only.
The main question is: are you 100% sure this will improve anything?

I forgot to mention something very important.
As you already know, in SMC and KIN there are teleporters.
The reason is obvious.
If so, why should I reduce the frags limit?

Not all of us are simply worried or concerned with "frag building"
I'm actually quite sure that SMC is a top favorite of not only Magna, but also Praveen, Lauraboom, Lenny, Rookie77, deamuel, myself and others too, yet even those of us who enjoy a more skill play map like SMC might not like or have time for hour long free team or DM games, so yes I'm 100% sure this will improve the game.

To make the matches truly time manageable in SMC as you said your stated objective is. I don't think a 25% reduction is quite enough, a 50% limit reduction is really optimal, but I can never recall seeing you just acknowledge and implementing a good idea without changing it somehow

As someone who plays SMC as much or more than anyone, the teleporters have minimal effect on shortening the matches.

Remus,
Tried this command for a SMC DM but it just said invalid command.
It's a great command for a quick game or maps like SMC,
I was also the camp owner. If it's not working do you have the time to fix it? We could only reach 17 points in the DM before a player had to leave.
Thx,
Ace
boss and the handsome remus,

Folks,

The scores with 20 (or less) frags limit are ignored by the teams scoreboard.
And I don't intend to change that.
Clear the browser cache and relod the game.
This is all I can do for you:

SMC and KIN maps:
Free teams : 25 frags
1vs1 and 1vs2 deathmatch: 20 frags
2vs2 and 2vs3 deathmatch: 25 frags
3vs3 (and above) deathmatch: 30 frags
CTF / Domination : 5 flags / dogs

All the other maps:
Free teams : 50 frags
1vs1 and 1vs2 deathmatch: 20 frags
2vs2 and 2vs3 deathmatch: 30 frags
3vs3 (and above) deathmatch: 50 frags
CTF / Domination : 5 flags / dogs

Good job! I have complete trust in you, as do all the other players.

(Bad Language is an "indefinite mute" penalty. You could ask kirby about it, but he can't answer in the game).

I loved this part. I could not have said it any better!!
