Your guys' ISP is ripping you off.

Find the person who promoted the game to every Turkish player and tell him to start a server-funding campaign.

Each Turkish player throw in one dollar (Turkish equivalent) per every one month, and buy a server in Turkey.

Well ... I knew Romania has great networks, that "top" is interesting but irrelevant.
Here we are not browsing websites or downloading files.
For a multiplayer game the connection speed is not important at all.
The connection QUALITY (latency & response time) is critical here.

Zeron,

We're--USA--not left off of that list because we're not good enough to get on it.

You will have to learn about the rest of the world and their feelings toward the USA.

They leave us off the list altogether. If they were to put us on, they would have to admit that we're number one. They REALLY don't want to do that.

It's better to pretend we don't exist -- until someone like Greece needs a bailout because they thought "freedom" meant giving free money away to everyone as a right.

So we can make our own list.

1: USA
2: USA
3: USA
4: USA

Notice a pattern? :P

That's right, the connection quality is all it matters here.
The Hopeless 2 NetController is highly optimized: 128Kb/sec is enough.
Not quite a dial-up connection, but close.

That doesn't make any sense.
But the session owner has this option: > elite camp
If they are not on the "elite" list, they are kicked out of camp (and cannot join anymore).

Your ping is very good, but that's worthless if your connection is so bad.
Very strange for someone living in Hannover - Germany.
Anyway, be sure of these:
- turn off all the automatic updaters (manually update your software).
- close all the other browser windows or tabs
- stay away from wireless routers & modems (they have bad latency).
- change your ISP (if it's a cheap one)

That test is irrelevant for two reasons:
1) good ping does not mean good connection
2) "the mean distance between the client and the server is less than 300 miles".
Not this case.

Hi Remus,

In the last two weeks or so I have not been able to connect to Hopeless 2.
The game says my ping is 400 or more, sometimes even 1300-1500. Then when I try to enter a camp it won't let me in and if it does then it cuts me off after only a few seconds.

The issue is that when I calculate my ping with other systems (speedtest.net and others) my ping is about 65-75. What is going on? Please help.

Hi,

That's unbelievable, because you live in the New York area.
Your connection to Chicago should be close to perfect.
Please do the following:
- launch the Command Prompt (Programs / Accessories).
- in that window type tracert infdat.com and press ENTER
- wait for trace complete, take a screenshot, crop the useful area and save it as GIF.
- send me that GIF (PM in this forum or email to necromanthus at yahoo dot com).
In case of severe route bottleneck in New York, your ISP sucks.
In case of severe route bottleneck in Chicago, I will forward it to Steadfast Networks Chicago.

Hi Remus,

Thanks for your prompt reply. I sent the previous post from my office where they have a NY server. From my office the connection is great; the problem is when I try to connect to hopeless 2 from home - I am in the Caribbean.

Anyway, I tried to do what you told me but the window closes down automatically after a few seconds. Also the print screen key does not seem to be working in my laptop and I canot capture the window.

Any other suggestions?

That explains everything.
Your home ISP has severe losses on the route to Chicago.
You need to contact them.
Any decent ISP should have secondary routes in case of traffic bottleneck.
They should be able to fix your issue.
Presuming your ISP is a decent one ...

And the question is, why did this problem start in the last 2-3 weeks, and why when I measure the ping with other methods it is pretty good (65 - 75)?

For me it looks like a messed up OS.

abe wrote:And the question is, why did this problem start in the last 2-3 weeks, and why when I measure the ping with other methods it is pretty good (65 - 75)
Obviously something happened 2-3 weeks ago.
But why do you ask me?
The game has nothing to do with your internet connection to Chicago.
And your problem is not the ping.
80ms ping does not mean good connection.
Good connection means constant bandwidth and response time.
If you have variations between 80ms and 400ms every 5 seconds, your connection is terrible.
So double check your OS and also try to get in contact with your ISP.

Remus,

I ask you because hopeless 2 is the only site I have a problem connecting to.

I can surf the net fast and fine, and when I check my connection with speedtest.net or other systems I get consistently about 70 ms ping and good bandwidth. No problem at all.

However, since about 2 weeks ago, I have problems connecting to hopeless 2: the game tells me my ping is terrible (anything from 250 to 1500) and that my connection is very bad and I cannot play. That's it.

Obviously there is something wrong with your computer or with your home ISP.
Try to uninstall the Shockwave plugin, reboot and install it again.
Get the full installer from here:

Also check out everything related to network in your computer.
Including the AntiVirus.
Stay away from Norton and Avast (a bunch of wasted resources and false detections).
For a home computer I always recommend Avira: http://www.avira.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The free version is also a good option: http://www.free-av.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Remus,

I reinstalled Shockwave and checked everything. No improvement. I get pings between 700 and 2000 ms in the game.

What I don't understand is that I check my connection with speedtest.net with towns in Ohio, Illinois, NY, Canada, etc etc and my ping is never higher than 100-150 ms.

My connection seems to be ok for everything except hopeless 2. Does that make sense?

Anyway, I have contacted my ISP and they are sending a technician to check my modem. Would my modem be the problem?

Take care

79 is fast. That's about what I get. But "ping" doesn't have much to do with the game, in the sense that 79 ping can still be a bad quality connection.

what can i do : i use vista home, IE 7 because when i use mozilla, i've got freezing screen at each shoot (and i only die...)

That indicates slow processor and/or awful graphics card.

An old CPU and a slow graphics card.

Here are 3 tips to improve your FPS value:
1) check out the Display Settings.
Be sure the Antialiasing is disabled (OFF)
2) in case of onboard graphics, check out the BIOS settings.
Be sure at least 256MB RAM are shared to Video (graphics processor).
3) set the Display color depth to 16bit (instead of 32bit).
On certain graphic cards you'll get a performance boost.

On fields with 12, 33 packs 0 warnings,O_O
when you're on the field after a few minutes, your fps drops enough that you can not hit anything else on the keyboard, except to enter or esc,, hehehe.
This happens to me after passing over 100 frags (with players coming and going)

Aldinho, my friend.
This is the shockwave plugin memory leak, it has nothing to do with bad connection.
In any case, every day I see unregistered players with 100-300 frags (honest players, not cheaters).
So obviously they are in the same camp for over an hour.

I don't have any problems with 12 on any of my computers.
I get a FPS drop after 30-60 minutes, but not a very significant one.
My suggestion to you all is to use > lock camp if your computer cannot deal with more than 6 or 8.
Also, close the browser (all the windows or tabs) before loading the game.
It will keep your browser memory usage to the minimum value (see Task Manager).
