Suicidal Tendencies

Post by Lenny »

More & more it seems the camps are just becoming RPG/Bomb fests.
There are countless scenarios were a player who is much more careful with their usage of RPG/Bomb, due to fear of killing themselves/team mates. These guys get the shitty end of the stick.
Were as the bonehead who's running out of skill, just starts Bombing indiscriminately all over camp, killing themselves, their team mate and a few of the opposition. These guys come up smelling of roses.

It all starts when a player or team are losing frags fast. It only takes one player to start running round firing RPG's in every direction. Then soon it just becomes a monkey see monkey do attitude, before you know it the camps a mess.

I'd like to hear what other players think of this. Particularly the Veterans, as they know what being in a camp without 40,000 rocket coming from 10,000 direction is like.

My opinion.
Stiffer penalties for Suicidal Tendencies.

I have always thought this. Suicide is a coward's way. They deny you the kill. I understand they lose 1 point. But it does not balance out when you have the upper hand in a match or even in free-for-all.

Yes, occasionally, we all screw up and shoot a wall with the RPG and do ourselves in. But repeatedly within several minutes? There should be a penalty for this. :agree:

As to random RPG fire or bombs in a match, to some degree I think we we all take a "luck shot" with the grenade launcher over a wall knowing the enemy is on the other side somewhere.

Certainly there's allot of this, but I like bigger maps anyway when others want to play. The random rpg's are not only less effective but an opportunity screaming hey here I am. On the other end of the spectrum APC is an RPG blasting fest from hell, but a great camp for nob players to blast away.

There's also skilled veteran players who know the maps so well that the semi-precision over the wall grenade toss becomes an good and effective game strategy...

Hey wasn't this subject already debated before?

Absolutely true. I dont have to search enemies when they use blind shooting, he he.

I think a current punishment for teammate killers is enough. Do you know how much is frustrating when you kill your teammate and you lose your ammo? Usually, the blind shooting lasting several minutes, is in TFC. Who came with an idea to use blind shooting there?

Do you know how is frustrating when you lose 29/30 and the other team kill their team mates many time :?:
Of course you don't, because your the team mate killing team mates, then start to laugh about it  .

Karol we are all here to have a good time, but i like to use tactics when i play.
I also like a good game and like to win once and a while.
After 3 years.
I understand that mindless bombing turns this game to Shyt.
Throwing bomb over a wall is ok,
but do i need to explain myself to you guys, about the mindless bomb we see in camp these days

Yes
Maybe +1 frag to our team when they kill teammate or killing themselves.

Some players just leave camp & return so they don't lose their guns.

We also have a list of players, who's main tactic is to throw bombs at their feet killing you & themselves.
This means the only players to lose a frag is the one not throwing bombs.
In Free For All, Several times I've had Alianza trapped in one of the NCY rooms. What does he do.
He kills himself.
This means that I lose a frag, Alianza also loses a frag, but he comes back with full health, I'm left with lets say 30 health, Alianza then kills me easy.
Who's lost out, the suicidal cheat, or the player who plays with a sense of honesty :?:
I'm seeing these tactics used more and more.

I agree. I've seen this tactic used a LOT! And we've debated it to death. But to me, it will always be poor sportsmanship.

But leaving the free-team camp (or Team match) and returning just to regain weapons is the same as cheating!
I think we should eject the player from the match even if it means a forfeit.

If you want this to change. For team play my proposal is -1 frag for the offending team and +1 for the opponent per offense. In essence a 2 point swing in the score.

I believe watching your score drop and the opponents score rise at the same time would add an interesting dynamic to the game play. i.e. quick score swings and changes of fortune. :D

At the same time it would encourage players to start learning how to play with more strategy and skill.

Lenny asked our opinion on this so here is my proposal.

Yes, its cheating. And thats why I've never done it. I just accepted that punishment for killing myself. But ejecting players leaving a match to get guns back would be quite difficult. Some of them could lose their connection...

Hmmmm...good point. Some players have lousy connections and blink in and out of matches. It wouldn't be fair to punish them for this.

I :agree: Ace's idea is good and could work, but you guys seem to be concentrating on team matches.
I'm talking about the whole game.
In all modes this game has become a bombers paradise.
For me, this is making the game a bombers game, and not a game of strategy.

The team aspect is easy as the point is awarded to the opposing team. But I'm not sure how it would work in free-for-all as there could be more than one player shooting at the #&$@#% suicidal :censored: player! So how could we make that work?

By not making it advantageous to suicidal players.

If you want RPG/Rocket/Bombs in camp, then you should have some training in how to use them
If your not trained properly, then you should pay the price

Cheers Slapshot and Lenny for the looking at and giving it  . Obviously need to wait for the ultimate determiner to give approval or disapproval yet, but thanks.

Lenny you mentioned changing free-play also. I'm open to modifying free-play too, but have another concern; RPG blasting is fun for some of the beginners and their only chance to score against the veteran nobs who spend nearly all their play in maps like APC1 so by default must also enjoy RPG's flying in every direction.

As said before the beginners are the majority., and players with longer attention spans, and desire to learn more strategy can always play large maps too.

I think it's very useful to be apply a new punishment for these guys.
Today I played with some teams when I shoot a opponent and he have low health he ran away to their teammate and his teammate killed him we got no point.
Today it's happens to me several times.

But the simple fact is as Lenny stated: "As long as these guys can get away it, they probably will".

Is it really a rule :?:
I think its just common sense.

We're never going to free this game from players killing themselves/team mates, and I don't think we should even try. Players make genuine mistakes, or their just clumsy.

As a few of you have said. It seem now that we have a growing number of players using this tactic to score frags/points, or win team matches

I think this is wrong, and will only lead to more players taking up this tactic.

Sportsmanship... YES  but sportsman have to compete, If a tactic is not deemed as cheating and stiff penalties are not given. Then the sportsman will be left with no option but to adapt these tactics into his own game.
So maybe it is a rule? IDK, I just think that If I was in the army, throwing Bomb/RPG at my feet, would not be something I would be thinking about doing very often.

I notice this:
when there is a match between two teams, whenever a player kills his friend (or suicide) leaves the field and back again to the field. Eliminates the penalty imposed on the player. I believe this makes the field a little messy. :whatis:

Are you talking about an official teams tournament (to punish those cowards)?
NO.
Did I tell you to play friendly matches with those cowards?
NO.
There is no fix for that because the game does not understand the "coward" concept.
