how to avoid mines

Post by John_H »

 What about if you just crouch you have 3 steps before the trigger gets armed so you can see where the land mine is positioned

If you like the idea it can be implemented with the possibility of stealing the enemy mine in the range of those 3 steps before arming trigger just pressing the use button...yes...yes...aiming  the mine (if you already have your mine...just release yours  ) so you will have 2 mines ready to use and your enemy will lose 10 points and 1 frag

and if you want more fun you can see the mine just using in a certain range your sniper scope and shooting at it the mine will explode

When I first proposed land mines some months back, I was thinking that people could crawl over them and steal them. Or that crouching and general would keep them from exploding.

I don't mind this idea. If someone crouches and crawls over my mine and doesn't explode, that's on them - because if they're in crouch, they're sitting ducks for gunfire then! So it's not like some big advantage.

And a remote trigger for the mine would be cool, but I think they have enough range as it is. You can walk within 10 feet of the mines!

I've seen exploding mines, but only one person dies (who is quite close, takes no scratches)

The proximity mines cannot be disabled.
On the other hand, 2 or more mines per player is out of question.
I don't want to turn this game into a complete chaos.
There are two options:
1) the radar to be extended in order to detect the land mines
2) a new item in the warehouse: mines detector.
Also, I might introduce the ability to shoot the mines (if detected).

in those 3 steps before the trigger gets armed and explode you have the detection of the mine(you need to crouch to make little steps) in other words you have 3 steps safe before you explode and can detect the mine position

You did not define "3 steps".
This game is not PacMan.
Most of the motions are nonlinear (interpolated). Including walk, jump and fall down.
Please define "3 steps before the trigger".
And again, the proximity mines have nothing to do with walk, crouch or prone.
If you are in their range ... bye-bye.

In nonlinear motions you cannot talk about steps.
So you are talking about distances (radius).
d > d1 --- safe
d < d1 and d > d2 --- detection
d < d2 --- dead

Now tell me: what do you want to do during "detection"?

Well, you can have 2 options:

1) Only if you dont have a mine, you can steal it and replace it in another place,

2) If you already have a mine, you can go in a safe distance and aim with your sniper scoope and shoot on the mine ( if someone is near at it...it's better  )

i think john wants to have remote control of landmine, so that it can blast only when he press the remote button.

secondly he wants to steal and taking control of mines of other players
so that he can use multiple mines plus his mine :P
now point is will other players remote work for their mines? :P

:)

if you crouch you can detect the mine , if you walk without crouch you cannot detect the mine.
during detection you just press use button and steal it.(only if you dont have already 1 mine in use)
but if you are not carefull, with slow moves, you blow up, in other words, the range of detection need to be very short, if not, it will be too easy
after detection, only who detected can see the mine, not everyone :!:
so then you can even shoot on it and blow up someone near at it

All these is very nice but the biggest problem in this stealing landmines is that we don't know where are landmines, so that means that we all should walk in crunch position to see them
I am using landmines only in team matches, in Free For All they are worthless for me :P

Well for now I think the land mines are fine.

But you know.... I like all of John's points!

Maybe this can lead to another weapon in the future? Maybe we can have some C4 blocks that are able to be ONLY detonated by the owner's control (either by the owner's trigger, which could be a remote or a sniper bullet) and the blast radius would be rather large.

I'm thinking about 5x what the mine radius is, so you could kill a few at a time.

It should also cost about 50 points or so instead of 10.

Nice idea about having explosives by remote Josh

As for the mines!!!
> I think that you should be able to detect the mines - using radar or a new tool purchased from the warehouse which would work over a short distance and be valid for either a time limit or a single mine.

Maybe a package, radar + armor
You have 60 seconds of this that can be armed and disarm at your will
You arm your radar + armor, Detect the mine, walk over it and disarm it, replace it with you mine, if you like, walk away, Disarm your radar + armor, 40 seconds left for next time.
also as i have said before, some indication of how many active mine are in camp

Question about warehouse :?:
Why cant all weapons cost point, but be spread around camp :?: with no warehouse

It does not worth the effort.
There is a 16.66% chance for you to respawn in that spot.
And they also have the same chance to die after respawning.

I can't walk around the WH, because ALL THE MORONS set mines there. On all three sets of steps, on the only two places you can jump up from the sides, by the boxes, by the phonebooth, by the jeep - it's a minefest!

So I like to catch them spawning!
