Low FPS?

For those with entry-level (slow) computers, here are some tips to improve the frame rate (FPS value):
1) turn OFF the Antialiasing (Display/Settings/Advanced).
2) use a fast & verified browser (Internet Explorer 6, 7, or FireFox 3.5)
3) close all the other browser windows or tabs
4) close all the other network suckers (messengers, chat, etc)
5) close all the unneeded background processes (advanced users only)
6) turn OFF the Q3 Shaders (in the game starting menu) - it might help for the AZT map.

Here is a proof.
A very cheap computer: Athlon XP 2400, 2GB DDR2-800, onboard Nvidia 6100
Windows XP-SP2, Internet Explorer 6.
40-45 FPS in full camp (8 players).

Also, I got a PM from Rudel (a very old player from Japan).
Between others:
Rudel wrote:My PC Old computer
Intel(R) Pentium4 CPU 3G
Memory 1023MB
Graphic board RADEON 9600 SE

FPS40 more → 5~10min
And 30 minutes → FPS15~18
And 45 minutes → FPS 10↓
Why his FPS is going down after a while?

The Shockwave plugin still has several memory leaks.
Adobe is the developer of the plugin, so I cannot fix the bugs for them.
Hopeless 2 is a complex multi-chars & multi-maps browser game.
Many models are generated at runtime.

For all these reasons you need (at least) 2GB RAM.
With only 1GB RAM you'll get into troubles (sooner or later).

Here is something cheap and powerful enough:
- mainboard based on Intel P35 or P45 chipset
- Core 2 Duo E8500
- 2GB DDR2-800 (or DDR3-1333)
- GeForce 9600GT

Hi Leo,

I don't use MACs at all.
Do you have MAC OSX or MAC PowerPC ?
Try here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/#sp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
p.s.
On MACs the 3D Renderer is forced to OpenGL.

i have mac osx tried to fix it this weekend but nothing has worked. Its as if i have a bad connection low fps around 20 then when i start to shoot another player my fps go down + screen start to freeze the more players in camp the worse it is. I've tried to go back to macromedia player but it wont let me in game.
all the other thing i have tried tell me i don't have MIME type "application x/director". adobe Shockwave 11 is the only plug in that will let me in the game but this (Shockwave 11) i think is the problem as it didn't happen before i had it

At 3 FPS you cannot play.
The main problem is that Shockwave 3D is not supported on Linux:
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/#sp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Also, any kind of emulator comes with a significant performances drop.
So you need Windows (XP-SP3 for best performances).

At 3 FPS you cannot play.
You can't play well, but you can still play! I do it every time more than two bad connections show up in camp, or every time I'm in TFC, or every time noobbrains come in and out and in and out, or every time I throw someone out (like I'm supposed to!) and they come right back in.

Anik, you'll get used to it. And being one of the Spanish Seven-Hundred, you have the added benefit of a spastic connection that drives other people's FPS down too.

At 3 FPS, the movement of the other players looks chaotic, truncated and faster to you.
And that's because your computer cannot process the entire amount of data.
The human eye needs over 24 FPS in order to interpolate properly the movement frames.

Shockwave is NOT supported on Linux.
You need an emulator and that means a significant performance drop.

Your connection (ping) test isn't important. FPS is your computer not a connection. Windows7 isn't good for Hopeles 2. Use Internet Explorer 6(IE6) or 7, not Google Chrome. Turn off Q3 Shaders ...

1) you can run Windows 7 in XP Mode: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtua ... nload.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
2) Windows XP (SP2) comes with Internet Explorer 6 (the fastest browser for shockwave-flash plugins).
3) low FPS in case of more than 6 players means slow processor and/or not enough RAM.

Hello Remus.

Wanted to take some doubts with you.

My computer has 4 GB of memory, an Nvidia 9400 GT, duo core, use IE 7 and use XP - SP2.

When I enter a map, my FPS is 50/50. But soon after the map is 8-player, my FPS drops to 28, 30.35 / 50. With five players on the field if he remains at 45.50 / 50.

Another doubt:

After about 40mim in the game, even with few players, my FPS drops to 35/50.

Another doubt:

If you get four players on the field with my FPS is 50/50. When the field is full (8 players) my FPS drops to 35/50 or less, as I said just above, but the players go out of the field my FPS goes back to normal.

And this happens on all maps.

And when I'm playing, just play it open. Most any type of program. Every time I go to play, do a general cleaning.

Just wanted to know what happens, I know my connection is not very good. But as I know, FPS has nothing to do with connection.

I hope not to have repeated a subject that you have already resolved or explained. But I looked at all the forum threads and found nothing.

Thanks ...

That indicates a slow processor.
For example, with Core 2 Duo E6400, 2GB RAM and GeForce 8600GT I get 49-50 FPS in full camp.

Adobe is retarded, if you ask me. I realize nobody asks me, but I still hold that opinion!

Every week when I cut my PC on I get a pop-up from Adobe saying that a Shockwave update is available, bla bla. Every time I download it, though, my camps seem to get worse!

One question from me also.
How come it seems that many peoples' computers performance seems to have nosedived over the last couple of months. Has the file
size increased dramatically and the lower end computers can't handle it.
My laptop at home is practically unplayable whereas it was ok 2 months ago in TFC and AZT at least.
If I go into TFC with anymore than 2-3 others it suffers terrible freezes.
My work pc is now also feeling the pinch with its FPS getting worse and worse.

Yes, more (free) RAM is needed with every new map, character or sound.
But I didn't notice any FPS drop on my main test machine (2GB RAM, XP-SP2).
If the OS does not have enough (free) RAM for a certain application, is forced to use the swap file on the HDD.
That means glitches and a significant performances drop.

first time i got 118/50 fps, which i was unluckily unable to take snapshot bcz of

this is only 90+/50 fps..
btw i dont like map loading every time.. this is annoying.. and seemed like u have to wait more and if your IE get some error.. means another 10 minutes to get into the game,. NOOOOOOOOOOO!

i dont like this new map loading every time feature
This resist me in switching/going into maps/camps.. . i cant wait this much for every map. :(

What do you mean with "every time"?
You have to wait only first time.
After that each (already stored) map is loaded in less than 1 second.
And what do you mean with "if your IE get some error"?
I didn't get any IE error in hundreds of tests.
Is your internet connection so bad?
p.s.
The FPS setup (the first listed value) is not accurate (cannot be) and is something insignificant anyway.

i know you have to load every map first time only.. and i cant see that percentage (means i dont want to wait more ) . i can wait for shockwave loading only bt not for every map loading thing.. :baby:

and about IE error .. i am talking about shockwave error because my IE window closes sometimes while switching to different maps/camps and my IE window closes. and then i have to reload game page again..
and now suppose if my IE window closes automatically after every switching camps quickly, then i have to spend 5-10 minutes more and each map time accordingly.

i cant see loading. really.. u know how hard it is to hold myself while seeing shockwave loading. and then when i see map loading again..

Remus, is this new performance boost the reason why I seem to be moving like in quicksand?

I haven't played enough yet to say that my camp performance is boosted, but I seem to be moving a lot slower or something. It's like everything has slowed down - my speed, their speed (except the really bad connection ones), the speed of shots, etc. Is this what "smooth motion" is like?

When I finally get into camps, I'm experiencing a little better FPS. Mostly, though, my PC just freezes more while the camp is loading.

And TFC free teams isn't improved. But I don't expect that to ever improve, even if I get a new Core i7 with 12MBs of memory and a GTX 295

But something in your computer doesn't work properly.
Let's try to find out which part.
See this screenshot:
