Hopeless 3

Post by Remus »

I'm waiting for over 3 years the day when Adobe will fix the bugs and update SW3D.
SW3D is a great piece of work, but its 3D engine is 10 years old!
I think it's time to move on.
I started to port the game on Unity3D.
What you should expect: better image quality and increased level of detail.
I cannot estimate the release date of the first beta, so don't ask.
Until then, here is a benchmark of the SMC map in Unity3D:

http://www.infdat.com/unity3d/SMC.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

- the SMC map in evening-night mode
- WSAD, Cursor keys, Space, MouseLook enabled (you need to click on the stage).
- Ageia PhysX (now we can enable a few vehicles  )
- lighting and shadows (also check out the castle).

The purpose of a benchmark (nothing optimized) is to see the FPS variation (where and how much) on slower machines.
In this case, 64 FPS is the max theoretical value.

Now the max. rendering speed should be really locked to 64 FPS.
Please retest and share the following informations:
medium FPS value / OS / browser / processor / graphics card.

Except the inaccurate FPS control in Unity3D (probably a bug), it's not bad at all.
You'll get a better image quality and the best FPS value.
:P
Scrappitt wrote:In the castle in went to a minimum of 22 but mostly 27-32
So 27-32 in the castle and 30-32 in the other areas.
Simon, double check the monitor (Screen) refresh rate.
Be sure it's set above 60Hz.

Please clear the browser cache again and retest.
I've made some changes and now I allow 75 FPS.
However, all my computers are still locked to 64 FPS (inside & outside the castle).

Obviously, everything runs extremely smooth here.

Now i have 77 dropping down to 70 but no significant change from in or out the castle, more drops of fps value near the fence looking the camp but for less then 1 sec behind the warehouse. In the castle it's 77 to 73 everywere and always looking up and down to see if any thing changes the fps value :beta:

- John_H (Win7 + IE8) and Syryne (Vista + IE7) get around 77 FPS
- Simon (Spectrum Sinclair) gets 26-38 FPS

PC Spec:
Intel Core 2 Duo
E6750 @ 2.66GHz
1GB Ram
Intel(R) GMA 3100 , 384MB

IE 6: 37/73 , 37-49 (covered castle ) , 50-69+ open castle, in open field i was able to get 73 many times but value kept on varying :P
FF 3.6: 36/72 few times 73
Speed directly proportional to fps .. hehe

ps: i set refresh rate 85Hz from 60 Hz

Anything above 40 FPS is very good for a browser based game.
"Locked to 64" provides the smoothest motion.
Above 64 FPS ... just great, but you won't feel any difference.
